Frequently Asked Questions

1.

Do you accept children that are not potty trained?

Yes!  Your child does not need to be potty trained to attend. Teachers will do their best to support your child's toilet learning efforts, but you'll want to send them to school in a diaper if they are not fully capable of using the potty independently.

2.

Is your school licensed?

Yes, we are licensed through the Utah Department of Health's Child Care Licensing program.

3.

Children must be three years old by June 1 to attend in the Summer and three years old by Sept 1 to attend for the Academic Year.

4.

Do you accept children with special needs?

Yes! Contact director@wonderbloom.org to discuss your child's needs and if our school would be a good fit. We will work with you to determine a specialized care plan.

5.

Can I sign up for more than one class?

Yes, during the Summer, we encourage you to sign up for several week-long sessions for the best experience for your child and best pricing.

During the academic year, you may sign up for multiple classes.

6.

Do you have a wait-list?

If classes are full, you are still welcome to fill out the application to be added to the wait-list.

7.

Does your staff have background checks and early childhood education experience?

Yes! Safety is very important and all staff members that may be unaccompanied with your child will have a rigorous background check including fingerprinting. We have a mixture of seasoned staff as well as brand new staff with Phd's, Masters, Bachelors or CDA. They are skilled and passionate and train with our directors every Friday afternoon. We also encourage our teachers to participate in emergent curriculum and nature-based trainings to help develop classroom skills needed to become an even better teacher.

8.

How much time will my child be outside?

Our goal is to have the children outdoors as much as possible. Our outdoor classroom is a place for learning. Full Day children will nap indoors. We may have to spend time indoors due to poor air quality or extreme weather conditions. We monitor the weather and children's health to make sure they are staying safe in the weather.

9.

What is your refund policy?

Once a payment is made, it cannot be refunded. See our Contract or Handbook for more information under the "Current Parents" tab.

10.

Do you offer extended care?

Yes! From 3:30-5:30PM Monday through Thursday during the academic school year only. There are additional fees required that can be viewed under the "Enroll" tab.

11.

How many kids are in a classroom and what are the teacher:student ratios?

In our 3-5 year old class the max number of students is 16 with classroom ratios of 1:8. In our 2 year olds class we have 13 students and 1:6 teacher to student ratio.

12.

Are you a nut-free facility?

We are not a nut free facility but we always inform parents if another child in the class has allergies. If a food item is packed by a parent that another child is allergic to we will separate them while eating and make sure hands are washed (not just sanitized) immediately following the meal. Allergy epi-pen trainings are offered for staff, and we don’t serve food items if we know an allergy to that item exists

13.

Are children required to be vaccinated?

We do not require children to be vaccinated, however for licensing purposes we are required to gather all vaccination records and have families who choose not to immunize their child to sign a document stating why. We also require those families to participate in a training about risks of not vaccinating. We respect that families may have religious, medical, or other reasons that vaccines may not be possible. The majority of our students are immunized.

14.

What is the waitlist timeline?

We have a 20% turnover after registration and about a10% turnover once students have started.

15.

Do you have summer camps?

Yes! Our program runs year round and registration details can be viewed under the "Enroll" tab on our website.

16.

Weather/Air Quality: What about bad weather days?

We monitor weather conditions daily, including the wind chill factor in the winter, heat index in the summer, and air quality year round. So long as these conditions are safe we are outside in all kinds of weather. Unsafe conditions are considered: thunder and lightning, high winds, or poor air quality. Please dress children for the weather and expect that they will spend at least ½ the day outside.

17.

Are the kids preparing for kindergarten readiness since this is a playschool?

Yes! We are still a licensed preschool that follows the Utah State Board of Education guidelines for kindergarten readiness including (but not limited to) separating from their caregiver, recognizing colors, simple counting, letters, sequencing a story, rhyming, following directions, and simple handwriting. We just integrate these skills into nature play!

18.

What disciplinary techniques do you practice?

We use a positive guidance approach for misbehavior or conflict. We approach with curiosity by asking the "why" behind their actions or behaviors (examples: are they exploring, are they seeking attention, do they lack communication skills, are they not clear on the rules?). We then try to prevent, redirect, and teach from this perspective. Our teachers model how to manage conflict and point out how our actions affect others. There are times when behaviors are outside the norm of our expertise or resources and may make themselves or others unsafe. In this case, we create a behavior plan with parents and may give referrals for other resources.
